As part of the Skill Development initiatives under NHDP, Tabeeb Handicrafts Producer Company Limited successfully conducted a two-month Design & Technical Development Workshop focused on GI-tagged Sozni Craft in the village of Kralawat, Baramulla. The initiative aimed to revitalize and upgrade traditional design techniques while empowering women artisans with market-aligned skills.
Design Advancement: Equip artisans with modern and innovative design techniques rooted in traditional Sozni embroidery.
Technical Skill Building: Enhance stitching precision, motif placement, and use of natural dyes.
Market Adaptability: Train artisans in trending patterns that cater to urban and global markets.
Women Empowerment: Offer focused inclusion of rural women artisans in mainstream production and enterprise.
Heritage Preservation: Promote the significance of GI certification in protecting cultural identity and boosting value.
All-Women Participation: The workshop was largely attended by women artisans, underlining the role of rural women in sustaining Kashmiri handicrafts.
Hands-On Learning: Artisans engaged in practical sessions, refining their skills under expert guidance.
Visual Aids & Banners: Educational posters and banners detailing NHDP-DDW objectives were prominently displayed at the venue.
Community-Based Setting: The event was organized in a local village space, ensuring accessibility for participants.
Intergenerational Learning: Elder artisans mentored younger participants, fostering knowledge continuity.
“I have been doing Sozni for 15 years, but learning new designs helps me sell my work better,” said one participant.
“We feel respected when the government supports our work. This workshop made us more confident,” shared another artisan.
